A sport in service of physical and psychological rehabilitation
A precision sport requiring motor coordination and concentration without intense physical effort, pétanque proves particularly well-suited for the rehabilitation of war wounded. The playful nature of pétanque and the diversity of its movements make it an effective therapeutic tool for patients who are often severely mutilated. The practice of pétanque also shows promising results in treating mental and psychological problems. The required concentration, the social aspect of the game and its practice structured around precise rules indeed offer a suitable framework for soldiers suffering from traumas related to war experiences.
A mobilization to develop this innovative project
About ten Ukrainian hospitals already use pétanque to help with the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers. To help develop this innovative project and meet growing needs, the pétanque world is mobilizing The Ukrainian pétanque federation wishes to extend this program to 50 other Ukrainian hospital establishments in the medium term. Training support has already been provided with the help of the International Pétanque Teaching Center (CIEP), and the International Federation of Pétanque and Provençal Game is launching a campaign in collaboration with the French federation and European federations to contribute to the material and financial support necessary for the development of this program... with the sponsorship of Philippe Quintais, 17-time world pétanque champion.
